Is it too early to plant my freshly harvested onion seeds?

I just harvested yellow onion seeds from two globes in my garden, and I'm curious about when I can plant them. Should I go ahead and sow them now, or is it better to wait until the fall? I live in growing zones 8a/8b, so I'm wondering if the timing is right for another crop this season.

You might want to check if your seeds are fully ripe. If they shake out easily from the pod and are black, they're good to go! Just make sure there’s enough time left in your growing season to get another crop of onions before winter hits.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll double-check the seeds for ripeness.

For yellow onions, they're biennial, so you'll usually need to wait a bit before they flower the second year. If you're growing a type that can produce perennially, like walking onions, then it's worth considering those if you're looking for speedy growth!

That's really interesting! I had no idea about walking onions.
