How to Fix Water Damage on Window Frames from Condensation?

I've got these beautiful floor-to-ceiling windows in my apartment, but I'm having a big issue with condensation. It collects and runs down the corners where the wood frame meets the glass, sometimes even dripping onto the frame itself. The paint on the frame has cracked over time, which makes me worry about water getting into the wood.

I'm not sure if this is something I can fix myself or if I should hire a handyman. My friends suggest letting the corner dry out completely and then sealing it with silicone, but I'm also curious if there's a special treatment or coating I should use for the wood. We've been using dehumidifiers a lot more since we found the problem, but I want to know the best steps to take going forward.

It's a wise move to keep running the dehumidifiers, as they really help. Once you've dried out the corners, sealing them with silicone sounds good to prevent any more moisture from getting in. You might want to consider applying a wood preservative or a sealer to the frame after it's dried—this can help protect against future water damage. If you're unsure about handling it, a handyman with experience in window repairs would be beneficial, especially to check if the wood itself needs treatment or replacement.

Thanks for the tips! So basically, dry it out, seal it, and then protect it somehow? Got it!

I agree with sealing the corners, but I'd also recommend checking if there are any other underlying issues, like if the frames are properly insulating. Simple fixes like adding weather stripping might help reduce condensation. If the wood isn't too damaged, a good paint job with sealing paint should work after you fix the cracks.

Good point! I’ll look into the insulation as well, thanks for the advice!
