How to Fix a Leaking Plastic Gas Can?

I recently got two plastic gas cans for free from Facebook Marketplace, planning to use them for emergencies since I only have a small one-gallon container. While cleaning them, I found that one has a slight split at the seam near the handle, which could lead to spillage if it tips over. I'm wondering how I can effectively seal this seam. Would hot glue, CA glue, or epoxy work, or is there something better? Just to note, the split is at the top, so it's not in constant contact with the fuel unless it gets knocked around.

If you're determined to fix it, consider plastic welding. That way, you can melt a piece of plastic into the seam, but remember to fill it with water first to reduce any fumes. Just be careful—heat and fuel don’t mix well!

Honestly, I'd be cautious about trying to seal that up. If the seam is broken, it’s probably better just to dispose of it. You don't want the hassle of a fuel spill, especially with fire hazards involved.

Straight up, just buy a new one. It's really not worth the risk of leaks, and you could end up saving more in the long run rather than trying to salvage something like that. A couple of bucks more for a safe container is way better than dealing with a potential mess.
