I'm trying to mount my TV to free up some space on my entertainment center. I have a single stud right in the center where I want the TV, but the other studs are too far out. I want to use an articulating mount, but I'm unsure about the best method to secure it. Should I go with two screws in the center stud and four drywall anchors, or is there a better option like creating a platform to hold the TV? Any advice?

If you can get two screws into the center stud and add heavy-duty toggle bolts on the left and right sides, that could work as long as your TV isn't too heavy. Another solid choice is to install 2x4 blocking between the studs for extra security. Just cut a strip of drywall, place the blocking between the studs, then patch it up afterward. This provides a robust area to attach your mount.
I personally mounted a TV exclusively on one stud—it can be done! Just ensure you have a good, heavy-duty mount. I replaced the screws that came with it for sturdier, tree torx head lags. As long as you stay within the weight limits for that stud, you should be fine.
One option is to use header boards attached to the studs. You can get two 24-inch boards that span between the studs. It’ll give you a sturdy base to mount your TV on without relying solely on drywall anchors. Plus, if you want it to look nice, you can paint the boards or use solid wood trim for a polished finish.
