Dealing with Hydrophobic Soil in Cloth Planters for Tomatoes

I'm growing tomatoes in cloth planters filled with compost, but I'm struggling with hydrophobic soil. I watered it well before planting, but the high heat has made the soil super dry, even with daily watering. I can't re-soak it like I did initially due to the roots, and I've tried soaking the soil slowly, but it just runs off through the fabric. Has anyone experienced this issue and found a good method to keep the soil consistently moist?

A cool trick is to fill some gallon milk jugs with water and freeze them. Then, turn them upside down in your grow bags. They'll melt slowly and give your soil a chance to absorb water without causing runoff.

One option is to submerge your cloth planters in a container of water to let them soak fully. It's an easier way to rehydrate them without disturbing the roots.
