Why does my garage remote only close the door in warm weather?

I recently replaced my garage door remote last December, and while it opens the door without any issues every time, it only closes the door when the weather is warm. I've confirmed that there is nothing blocking the sensors, as they indicate green, and the garage light doesn't blink when I try to close it, which means there's nothing in the way. It's just odd because when it's cold, it won't close. Is there a fix for this weird problem?

This sounds like a classic case of down force calibration issues. In colder temperatures, the door might experience more friction, which triggers the safety mechanism thinking there's something blocking it. Try adjusting the down force calibration on your remote; I found that bumping mine up helped a lot!

You're a godsend! That adjustment on the down-force calibration seemed to fix it! Who knew such a small tweak (I went from a 5 to a 6) would do the trick? Thanks for your help!

I used to have a similar issue right around early April! Even if the sensors showed green, they were slightly misaligned due to the sun hitting them at just the right angle. We ended up rebuilding and reinstalling the sensors, and ever since, they’ve been working perfectly fine.

Makes sense! When closing the door, both the beam and the force detection sensor must agree everything’s clear. If the door is having a hard time with excessive force, especially in colder weather, it could be due to friction. You might want to lubricate the chain, rollers, or hinges, particularly if it’s a roll-up door. Look for a cold-weather lubricant that maintains its viscosity in lower temperatures!

A slight adjustment to the down-force controller seems to have done the trick! I had the garage door serviced last summer, so I’m hopeful!
