I'm working on a little landscaping project at my parents' place where I want to remove some weeds and replace it with landscaping rock. The area is about 20 feet long and 2.5 feet deep. Since I'm only going about 2.5 inches deep, I'm wondering if it's necessary to call and have utilities marked before I start digging. I can see where the electric utility spot is, and I know the gas line is on the opposite side of the house because my husband installed it. I don't want to waste the utility company's time if it's not needed, but I also want to be safe. Since they live on an acreage, should I ask them to mark only around the house? Thanks for any advice!

Always call before you dig, even for a small project like this. It’s a simple and free way to avoid potential issues. Better to be safe than sorry!
You’re right to consider calling! If you’re having doubts, it’s best to ask. The utility companies actually prefer you to reach out. The worst that can happen is a little inconvenience, but it’s not worth messing around with your utilities. They'll appreciate being informed, especially for that area!

Good point! I was kind of leaning toward calling anyway, so it's nice to hear that it won't be a hassle for them. Thanks!
