Maximizing Benefits from Wall Holes in Our Older Home

We recently purchased a 1907 home and made some upgrades that required our electrician to cut several larger holes in the walls than we anticipated. With the cat6 cable and shielded audio cable already run for ceiling speakers, plus wiring for our thermostats, we're wondering how we can best make use of these openings before we patch everything up. Are there any additional improvements or installations we should consider?

It never hurts to add more AC outlets while you’re at it! Just makes everything more convenient in the long run.

Have you thought about adding insulation while those holes are open? It could really help with energy efficiency in the long run!

Running some pull lines is a smart move too! This way, if you need to run any new cables down the line, you won't have to open up your walls again – super handy!

Absolutely! I’ll make sure we do that.

Definitely consider running some conduit and a pull string through those holes! That way, if you need to add more wires later, it’s much easier without having to break into the walls again.

Make sure your electrician added an extra circuit for the attic and upstairs, since older houses usually have fewer circuits. You can also think about running coax to the attic for a TV antenna, or an ethernet line to the front door for a more reliable system instead of a Ring. Plus, adding a couple more ethernet drops for security cameras and VoIP phones could really enhance your setup!
