How Can I Warm Up the Cold Light in My Kitchen Ceiling Well?

Asked By SunnySide42 On

I've got this ceiling light well in my kitchen that lets in cold white light, and it's making the space feel uninviting. We recently painted the kitchen a warm white and used the same shade in the light well, but the cool light is really clashing and feels off. I'd like to avoid going back to the boring beige from 2002. By the way, the light diffuser in the ceiling well is about 2.5 feet deep, so I'm looking for solutions that work well in that context.

One great idea is to paint the interior of the well a warmer color! You don't have to stick with beige—consider a modern orange or red to contrast with the cooler light. This can really enhance the warmth in your kitchen design. Plus, warmer colors can absorb some of that chilly sunlight coming in!

Totally agree! Warmer paint can make a big difference. You might also want to check out LeeFilters for some color temperature adjustment gels. They offer options that can warm up the cool light coming through—just kind of lay them over the diffuser to see what works best for you!

Good point about the sheen! Have you thought about using a flat paint? It might help reduce the glare from the light by not reflecting too much.

You could try adding a color temperature adjustment gel over the light diffuser itself to warm things up. This will directly change how the light looks without needing to repaint. A simple and effective fix!
