How Can I Improve Ventilation in My Small Room with No Openable Window?

Asked By SunnyBreeze99 On

I recently moved into a new apartment where my family converted a long room into two smaller ones for my sister and me. Unfortunately, my room only has access to a non-openable window, making it really hot and stuffy. Despite getting an air purifier and a fan, it's tough to sleep comfortably due to the lack of fresh air. I can't drill outside for ventilation, but I can make modifications within my room, including adding vents in my door. I was thinking about installing a Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV) to pull air from the corridor. Any suggestions on how to improve ventilation?

Don't worry about drilling into the ceiling since it's an apartment. Instead, focus on that gap under your door and try to keep it clear for airflow. Adding some small vents or a grille above the door can help bring in air from the hallway. Even a simple magnetic vent cover could work if you want an easy solution. Just remember to keep the airflow going to make the room feel less stifling!

Thanks for the tips! I’ll definitely consider the vent above the door idea.

One idea is to create a vent above your door. You can cut a hole for a vent-sized opening and maybe install a computer fan like this one from Amazon: [AC Infinity Register](https://www.amazon.com/AC-Infinity-Register-Thermostat-Control/dp/B0792QR5YT). This fan could help draw cooler air from the rest of the apartment into your room. Just make sure there’s a gap under your door to help with airflow and relieve any pressure build-up. It’s not perfect, but it will definitely help!
