What’s the Best Way to Cut Wire Shelving Posts?

I'm trying to convert a 72-inch wire shelving unit into two 36-inch units, but I've run into a problem. The posts don't seem to come apart, which I understand, but I need to figure out how to cut them down easily. Does anyone have suggestions or methods for cutting these wire shelving posts without too much hassle?

You’ve got a few options for cutting those posts. A hacksaw is a classic choice, but a reciprocating saw (often called a Sawzall) would make it quicker if you have one. If you’re looking for precision, an angle grinder can do the job too. Just be careful with the sparks!

I agree! Just make sure to wear safety goggles if you use the angle grinder. Those sparks can be wild!

Some folks swear by using bolt cutters for wire shelving posts. They’re usually strong enough to handle the job without too much fuss. Plus, your local big-box store might even have them available to cut wire to measure if that's an option for you!

True! I've seen them do it in stores. Just check if they’re willing to help out!
