Will Using a Paint Pen on Cabinets Make Refinishing Tougher Later?

I'm considering using a paint pen to touch up some worn spots on my 20-year-old cherry-stained hardwood cabinets. I'm not sure when I'll refinish them, but I don't really like the current stain and want to change it one day. If I use the paint pen now, will it complicate things when I decide to refinish them later? My goal would be to lighten the stain and neutralize the red tone.

Are you planning to paint over all your cabinets with a paint pen? That might be a lot! But if it's just for touching up chips and wear, that sounds reasonable!

Just a heads up, you can't easily stain over the paint to lighten it up unless you strip the old finish. Have you considered using a toning technique instead? It might be worth checking out!

Yeah, I'll think about toning for later, but for now, I'm just focusing on those little touch-ups.
