Every time my air conditioner turns on, it makes this crazy deep "WUUUURRRRRRRRRR-GGHHHH" noise! It sounds like it's either trying to take off into space, waking up after a long nap, or regretting all its life choices. Even though it cools the house just fine, my dog is now hiding under the bed and my Alexa keeps saying, 'I'm sorry, I didn't catch that incantation.' HVAC experts, should I be worried about this noise or is my unit just rocking out as if it's part of a heavy metal band?

Sounds like it might be time for an HVAC inspection. If you ignore it, don’t be surprised if it fails when you need it the most, like during that crazy summer heat! Better safe than sorry, right?
It might be a sign that the fan bearings are going bad. I once had a similar situation where the noise was so bad it sounded like a cat in a blender! Definitely a good idea to have someone check it out when you can.
LOL! I feel you! My AC sounds like a helicopter taking off too! But hey, as long as it still cools the house, it seems to hang in there. Just replaced my capacitor last summer, which bought me more time. I think we’re both waiting for the inevitable, haha!
It could be a few things. Check the fan motor; it might be shot. If it is, you can get a new one on Amazon pretty cheap and replace it yourself. Just make sure to turn it on while you’re near it to confirm if that's the problem. Plus, don’t forget to clean the fins; dirt can really drive up the noise levels!
