What’s the Best Way to Install Bathtub Safety Bars and Change the Faucet Handle?

I need to install several safety bars in my bathtub and also put up a shower curtain rod. I'm a bit confused about how to go about this. Can I just pick out the bars and rod, buy them, and then hire someone to install? Do I need a plumber for this, or is a general handyman good enough? Plus, I want to change the bathtub handle and back plate—the knob you turn to start the water. Would a plumber need to handle that as well?

Absolutely, a handyman is perfect for these tasks. Just a heads up, the tub handle might need to be special ordered since not all styles are readily available at big stores. By the way, when putting in the safety bars, it might be helpful to opt for longer ones than you think you'll need. If you’re considering a 9-inch bar, going for a 16-inch one could be smarter for safety, especially in case you need to reach quickly!

A decent handyman can handle all of this for you. You can choose the safety bars and shower curtain rod yourself, just make sure to include any necessary fasteners with your purchase. They’ll take care of the installation and figure out the best way to secure everything!

Honestly, installing bathroom safety bars can be pretty straightforward and you might be able to do it yourself. But if you’re not feeling confident about it, I totally get wanting a pro to handle it. Better safe than sorry, especially for your situation!

Thank you! I'm really looking for something safe, so I think getting someone experienced sounds like a good plan.
