How Can I Prevent Water Damage from Rain near My House?

I've noticed some water damage to my laminate flooring during rainy weather. I'm wondering if having a concrete slope next to my house that'll direct water away is enough to solve the problem, or if I also need to install a drain that leads to the street or improve my gutters. What steps should I take to address this issue, and who should I hire to properly assess the situation?

It’s super important to get water moving away from your foundation as quickly as you can! First off, consider extending your gutter downspouts. This is a relatively simple fix that can make a huge difference - you can often do it in just an hour without spending much. If you want to get fancy, you could even bury the extension. Also, check that your neighbors aren’t directing water towards your place with their own gutters.

Make sure the slope around your house is in good shape too. Rain should flow away, not pool up near your foundation. You might have already looked into this since you mentioned the slope, but it’s worth double-checking all sides of your home.

Don’t forget to seal any gaps or cracks around your foundation; it’s a great way to keep water out, plus it can stop pests from getting in. If you try all these things and you’re still having issues, you might want to call a waterproofing expert for a more thorough solution. Good luck!

Isn’t re-grading and adding concrete slopes more crucial than just relying on gutters? If water is pooling at the base, the gutters might not fix the issue completely.
