I'm looking for a good portable drill press to help me join two 2x4s at a 90-degree angle using dowels. My budget is tight, so I'm hoping to find something that's both affordable and decent in quality. Any suggestions?

Have you thought about using a self-centering dowel jig kit with a regular drill? It's a great way to get precise dowel joints without needing a drill press.
If you're open to alternatives, consider using a countersink bit with recessed screws and hole plugs, or even pocket screws with hole plugs. It's a much cheaper solution!
Honestly, you might not even need a drill press for this. Just use a couple of clamps with a hand drill and a flush cut saw. It’ll save you some money and still get the job done!

Thanks for the tip! I hadn’t thought about using screws and plugs; that sounds much easier on the budget.
