Why do electricians and plumbers keep ghosting me?

I bought my first house last May, knowing it needed updates and repairs from some shoddy DIY work done by the previous owners. While I'm handling some tasks myself, I really want certain things, like electrical and plumbing work, to be done by professionals. I tried hiring my realtor's son for the electrical fixes, but after a month of him ghosting me, I had to find someone else. Every electrician I contacted either ghosted me again or had an impossibly long waitlist. Now that I've decided to tackle plumbing issues, it feels like I'm facing a similar challenge. I called about three plumbers, and only one actually scheduled a visit, but he had to keep rescheduling due to personal emergencies. It's frustrating! Is this just bad luck, or is something wrong with my house that they're not telling me? Should I stick with local tradesmen or just pay the big companies?

It sounds like you’re having a rough time, and unfortunately, you're not alone in this! Sometimes, local businesses are swamped and might be overstretched. If your realtor's son didn't come through, it could be that he was too busy or not experienced enough. I’d recommend asking for recommendations from neighbors or online forums—sometimes the best contractors are just hidden gems! You might have to pay a bit more for reliability with bigger companies, but it could save you the headache of constant ghosting.

It can be really discouraging, but try not to get disheartened! Stick with it and eventually you’ll find someone dependable.

Right? I had to call so many folks just to get even a response. It's like a black hole out there. Definitely keep trying and maybe broaden your search—don’t limit to just the ones you know or have been recommended because it can lead you to better options.
