Where Can I Buy Crushed Lava for My Plant Mix?

Asked By GreenThumb47 On

I'm looking for some recommendations on where to buy crushed lava rock since I've started using it in my soil mix. I love the results it brings, but I want to incorporate more without overpaying at places like PetsMart. If anyone has some preferred suppliers or local stores they use, I'd really appreciate the tips! Thanks a ton! 🙂

It really depends on where you live since some areas have better access to these materials. I switched from perlite to pumice because my nearby specialty nursery sells it at a great price. If you have a nursery nearby, it might be worth the trip!

I totally love pumice too! I haven't found a good source for lava yet, but I'm going to keep searching whenever I visit new places.

Have you checked out local landscaping stores or nurseries? They usually have a variety of soils and could stock crushed lava rock. Just ask around!

I actually found some turface at my local store that has lava rock, but it was only larger chunks, not the small pieces I wanted. Still worth checking out! I've also been looking online but haven't found anything local yet.

Check out this Amazon link for Horticultural Black Lava Rock: [here](https://a.co/d/97thDp6). It's about $2.25 per pound. Not sure how it compares to your local options, but it might be worth considering!
