I'm currently growing tomatoes, cucumbers, watermelon, and bell peppers, but with fall planting season approaching, I'm looking for advice on how to transition to winter crops in the same space. What steps should I take to make this shift effectively?

As someone else in 7B, I suggest starting your seeds now—it’s a great time for direct sowing too! Think about beets, turnips, kale, and lettuce. I've just seeded carrots and more beans; it's a perfect time to stretch your garden and try out some new veggies as well!
You should definitely look into which crops can be transplanted versus those that need to be sown directly. Root crops like beets and carrots are great since you can plant them close to your summer veggies if you're planning to remove the summer crops soon. Just cut them at the base to keep the roots for soil health!
It really depends on how much space you have. If you can fit new crops among your current ones, go for it! Otherwise, start some seeds in pots and transplant once you take out the summer plants. Just be sure to get cool-season crops going early enough to be ready by the first frost in late October!

Thanks for the advice! I appreciate the reminder about the first frost date—I'll make sure to time my planting right.
