Is $17,000 a Fair Price for Waterproofing My Basement?

Hey everyone! I'm a first-time homeowner and I've just received a quote for waterproofing my basement, which is around 1,200 square feet. The estimate came in at $17,000 because the basement has never flooded, but I've noticed moisture problems, especially during heavy rain. The proposed work includes cutting and removing concrete, digging a hole for a pump station, installing drain tiles, dealing with the crawlspace, and ensuring mold treatment, among other things. It seems like a lot of tasks, but I'm wondering if this price is reasonable considering everything involved. I'd love to hear your thoughts before I make a decision! Thanks in advance!

The bulk of this work seems focused on installing the tile and sump pit from the inside. I'm curious, why haven’t they considered addressing the drainage issues from the outside? If it was my house, I'd want to grade the area to direct water away from the foundation. It feels more like treating symptoms rather than the root cause.

That makes sense. In many flat areas, sometimes internal measures are all you can do. I’ve lived through that too; despite good grading, I still get water during heavy rain due to poor soil around the foundation. It's frustrating because you can’t really change the land!
