What Should I Do About This Mysterious Light Switch?

I'm facing a puzzling situation in my master bath where the toilet has its own little room. There are two light switches here: one for the light and another that seems to be connected to nothing, even though it's hot and the switch itself is functional. I've flipped it on and searched my entire house but I can't find what it controls. I'm considering disconnecting the fan from the light and connecting it to this second switch instead. Any advice on how I can track down what this second switch might control?

It's quite likely that the second switch is actually intended for the fan, especially if the previous owner combined the fan and light together. Just make sure to inspect it carefully!

I've been in a similar situation! When we moved in, there was a switch that led to an outlet in the basement, and it caused a lot of headaches. Someone even plugged a fridge into it and lost food! So, check every outlet and see if something unexpectedly lights up!

It sounds like that second switch used to control something else, possibly the fan before it was replaced by the current one. The previous owner might have jumpered it to the light. Get a circuit tester to trace it down if you want to be sure!
