Why Won’t My Fire Alarm Stop Beeping After I Turned It Off?

I'm having a frustrating issue with my fire alarm. It went off, and after I turned it off, it's now just beeping continuously. I've tried removing the battery and even pressing the test button for a full minute, but nothing works except leaving the battery out. Is there anything else I can try to get it to stop? Thanks for any help!

Have you checked the battery? It could be low. Try putting in a fresh battery and see if that clears up the problem.

Make sure to check the age of your smoke detector! They usually need to be replaced every 10 years. If it’s that old, it might beep like it’s low on battery when it’s actually at the end of its life.

How do I check how old it is? We just moved in, and it seems like everything here needs updating.

It sounds like dust might be interfering with the alarm's sensor. Sometimes, just cleaning it out can help, but if it’s pretty old, you might want to consider replacing it altogether.
