Is It Okay to Drain My Water Softener Waste Directly onto the Ground?

I just moved into a new house and noticed that the water softener in my basement has a drain line that empties out onto the ground beside my house. While I haven't seen any damage to the grass, I'm not sure if this is the right way to handle the wastewater. Since I have a septic system and a well, should I keep it this way, or is there a better option?

I think it's pretty common for water softeners to drain directly into the yard. In my experience, both houses I've lived in did the same, and I didn't have any issues unless it was too close to the house or the drainage caused problems. Ideally, though, you'd run it to a proper drain, especially with a septic system in place. Just keep an eye on it!

How far should the drainage go? I have a flexible pipe that's about 2 feet long and a splash block underneath.
