Best Ways to Insulate Noisy Drain Pipes from Upstairs Neighbor?

Hey everyone! I've recently moved into a great rent-stabilized one-bedroom apartment that's a steal in a nice neighborhood. The downside? The drain pipes from my upstairs neighbor's old layout run through the wall right next to my bedroom, causing some annoying noise. I'm thinking about ways to insulate these pipes to reduce that noise. I'm open to cutting into the drywall and installing some insulation if needed. Any suggestions on how to tackle this? I'm not entirely sure where the pipes are located, but I can make a good guess based on the sounds and layout of the wall.

Foam earplugs are definitely a super simple solution, or you could go for heavy drapes on the wall. They act like a sound barrier, which helps dampen the noise a lot—think of it as putting a pillow over your ears!

Earplugs are convenient, but I don’t really like wearing them at night. I’m leaning toward something more long-term!

You might want to check with your landlord before starting any drywall work; they usually don’t like holes being made. But if you can get the green light, it could really help!

I plan to repair anything I cut, but I'll make sure to run it by them first!
