I'm looking to buy a table saw and I've got two choices from Harvey: a single phase 2.2kW (3 HP) model or a 3 phase 4kW (5.4 HP) model. The price difference is minimal, only 100 euros, and I'm a fan of 3 phase tools since they seem harder to bog down. I typically cut hardwood that's about 55mm (2+ inches) thick. However, I've noticed that Laguna's offerings seem somewhat underpowered, with their models ranging from 1.1kW (1.5 HP) to 2.2kW (3 HP). Currently, I'm using a DeWalt jobsite saw at 2kW (2.7 HP), which feels underpowered for my needs. I'm curious about the differences between universal and induction motors as well—are induction motors significantly stronger? And another thing I'm wondering is whether the 4kW 3 phase saw will be much louder than the 2.2kW single phase model.

Do you have access to 3 phase power? If you do, then definitely go for the 4kW model. In my experience, it's hard to find 3 phase outside of industrial settings, especially in homes. But if you've got it, 3 HP is usually more than enough for a 10" blade.

Yes, I have 3 phase available in my house; I even run a jointer and dust collector on it. Just hard to tell if the dust collector makes that much of a difference.
