I've got some gorgeous eggplants and tomatoes in my garden, but unfortunately, they're being attacked by the local wildlife. I typically use individual bags for the tomatoes—though I forgot this year, and it's been a tough one! My eggplants are getting nibbled on as soon as they reach about 2 inches long. It seems like these furry creatures are getting some kind of revenge. They even chewed the flowers off my plants without eating them! Now that I've managed to get a squirrel-proof bird feeder, I'm preparing for an all-out war against these pests. Any tips or suggestions on how to protect my plants?

It really depends on which critters you're dealing with. I've had issues mostly with squirrels and chipmunks, but I think it's the chipmunks who are doing the most damage in your case. Keeping them at bay can be tricky!
I totally relate to your battle! Squirrels can be a nightmare, especially with all the oaks and beeches nearby. I've had good success using tight insect netting along with sprinkling cayenne pepper and coffee grounds around the plants. Also, putting fresh water away from the garden helps keep them distracted. It’s just a headache, especially come fall when they're really digging in!
I’ve tried the cayenne and coffee grounds approach but never the netting. I guess that’s my next step—these critters really don’t make it easy for us gardeners!
I've had some success using mesh laundry bags over my potted tomatoes. It worked well until a neighbor's cat decided to knock it over, but that's a whole other story! If you go that route, just keep an eye out for any mischievous pets in the area.
Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely give that a shot, but I'll have to remember to keep the cat situation in mind.

You're probably right! I definitely see both around here, but it feels like the chipmunks are more relentless.
