I've noticed a lot of chatter here about how certain home improvements, like removing a bedroom for more closet space or adding a bathroom, can hurt resale value. But if you're not planning to sell anytime soon, should that really matter? I'm curious to hear about decisions you've made that might not have a great return on investment but were totally worth it for your own enjoyment. What are some examples of these choices?

While I don't have hard numbers, I’d say insulating your home is a game-changer. It might not be a primary focus when buyers are looking, but it makes a massive difference in comfort and efficiency. My area gets really cold in winter, so good insulation is something homebuyers here actually value. Plus, new tri-pane windows can be pricey, but that’s another feature buyers seem to look for. It might vary depending on your climate, though.
They installed an in-ground pool at my uncle's place. The family loves it, especially as they’re not traveling much anymore and just want to relax at home. The resale value might be iffy, but they upgraded from an old, tedious above-ground pool, and the enjoyment factor has skyrocketed.
We installed two IKEA wardrobes and even built them in next to a dressing table. Our bedroom feels a lot smaller now, but at least it’s no longer cluttered with clothes everywhere! Totally worth it for the organization we gained.

Absolutely agree! I don't know about the ROI either, but it makes your living experience so much better. Seems like the importance of insulation really depends on where you live.
