I recently installed a 10,000 BTU AC unit in my living room and kitchen area, and I've noticed two things: first, the air inside feels amazing, but second, the window where the exhaust vent is located gets really hot to the touch. I understand that the AC is designed to pump hot air outside, but is it normal for the glass to heat up like this? Could the window screen be contributing to the problem, or is this to be expected?

The screen is really hindering your airflow. Having it on is probably making the unit overwork itself, which is not only wasting energy but also reducing the cooling efficiency. Definitely consider removing it to help your AC perform better!
You really should take off that bug screen. I get the concern about pests, but trust me, not many bugs are gonna be tempted to crawl into a super hot exhaust hose! Removing the screen can help improve air circulation, too.
It's all about thermodynamics! When your AC is doing its job taking heat out of the air and pumping it outside, that heat's gotta go somewhere. So, yes, the area around the window can get hot since it's expelling that heat. Totally normal! Just make sure your setup allows for proper airflow, or it might struggle.

Haha, good point! I'll be removing it soon!
