How Can I Soundproof My Garage for Power Tools Without Disturbing My Neighbors?

My wife and I just moved into a townhouse with a finished garage, and I have several woodworking projects lined up like a desk, coffee table, and some outdoor furniture. The issue is that my power tools are really noisy, and I don't want to annoy the neighbors while I'm working. Does anyone have suggestions for soundproofing my garage so I can use my tools without worrying about bothering anyone?

Why not have a quick chat with your neighbors? Don’t ask for permission; just give them a heads-up that you’ll be working with power tools. Maybe even bring them something small you've made as a friendly gesture. Keeping communication open can really help!

You might want to consider using sound dampening panels. Just remember, they might not block out all the noise since you'd still want good air circulation if you're using power tools. Plus, you can't really soundproof an open window or garage door. It's probably best to keep your work hours to between 10 and 4 to keep things manageable for your neighbors.

Have you tried egg crate foam? It’s great for sound absorption! Just place the textured side facing the noise source, and cover as many surfaces as you can—except for doors and windows, of course. That should make a noticeable difference.
