Hey everyone! I just started working at a woodworking shop where we specialize in tables that keep their milling and saw marks, so we don't use hand planes that often. However, I came across a situation where I really needed one. I picked up a block plane the other day, made a pass, and it left a really deep mark on the wood. When I checked the blade, I found it was ground straight across and the corners were digging into the wood. I looked at the blades for all my planes—block, jack, and smoothing—and they all had the same sharpness issue. Does anyone know where in Maine I can get these blades re-ground back to factory settings?

If you have access to a bench grinder, re-grinding them yourself is pretty straightforward! Rex Krueger has a great video tutorial on how to get it done.
You might want to reach out to u/fiveironjoey; they could help. But honestly, I recommend learning how to sharpen hand plane blades yourself! It’s a valuable skill to have.
A professional knife sharpener might be able to help you out, and some tool shops that resharpen drill bits could do it too. Just keep in mind there might be a waiting period and some costs involved, so learning to do it yourself could save you money in the long run.

I've sharpened plane blades and chisels before, but I've only done maintenance work. I don't feel confident recreating that factory edge myself.
