Experiencing Overheating with My M12 Fuel Hammer Drill

I've been having trouble with my M12 Fuel hammer drill lately. It tends to overheat and underperform, especially when I'm drilling into wood joists using spade bits or other wood bits. Even when I try using a square bit to drive wood screws, it really struggles. Essentially, any time there's a bit of torque or resistance, the drill just stops working. The battery indicator flashes red, and I have to let it cool down before using it again. When I attempt to adjust the torque or chuck settings, it just clicks instead of responding as expected. Switching the battery doesn't resolve the issue either. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to help? I appreciate any advice!

It sounds like your drill might be getting overworked for a 12v model, especially if you're drilling with spade bits. But one thing you should definitely check is the battery contacts. Sometimes, if they’re dirty or not making good connection, it can trigger the overheat protection. Make sure to clean them thoroughly, including the heat sensor connection.

I get what you're saying, but I'm only trying to make about 5 holes at 1/2". It's weird that it struggles so much, especially since it doesn't get heavy use. I've cleaned the contacts, but I’ll give it another go. Thanks for the suggestion!
