Hey everyone! I recently purchased a 7-acre property and had a bit of a mishap with my mower when I accidentally hit a couple of tree roots. It's not a huge deal, but I'd like to find an effective way to mark these roots to avoid further damage. The previous owners used a small John Deere mower, but we've upgraded to a larger 60" commercial mower, which has been eroding the soil around the roots and making them more exposed. Eventually, I'd like to mulch around the trees, but for now, I just want to mark the roots so I can maneuver better while cutting. Any suggestions?

One solid option is to clear the grass around the roots and apply mulch instead. This will help protect the roots while also keeping your mower safe. Plus, it can look nice too! Adding some small plants in that area could help visually define the root zones as well.
Honestly, I wouldn’t worry too much about marking them. The 60" mower might shave down the smaller ones; however, for the bigger roots, you might want to consider getting a stump grinder to cut them back below ground level to prevent any further mower damage. Just keep in mind, you’ll have plenty of deep roots that won’t be affected.
