I recently bought a house and have been tackling repairs highlighted in my inspection. I found a gap in the fascia where the roof, siding, and gutter intersect, which seems to expose the attic. I'm not entirely sure how to fix this or if it's something I should just leave to a contractor. I'm capable of DIY projects, have tools, and am willing to learn, but home repairs aren't my forte. Additionally, I need to remove an old power line cable that's partially obstructing the area. I haven't had a chance to safely inspect it up close yet, but I'm looking for advice on how to proceed with the repair.

It’s important to figure out what that wiring is. It seems like it might be forcing the fascia out, which could be contributing to the gap. From what you described, it sounds like an old power line that's disconnected but still attached to your siding. You should definitely scope it out to see if it's causing any issues, especially before you start any repairs.
It looks like your fascia board might be warping and separating from the rafters. This could definitely let water in, and it’s possible you’re dealing with some rot as well. Make sure to get up there and check everything out before deciding on your next steps. It'll give you a better sense of the damage and what needs fixing.
Thanks for the tip! I'm planning to check it out this evening and will see what I can find. Hoping to take some more pictures, too.

Yeah, from what I gather, that's the old power line. It's cut on both ends and not in use anymore, but I need to verify how it’s impacting the fascia. Just need to get back to the house later to assess!
