Need Help with PVC Pipe Elbow Sizes!

Hey everyone, I could use some help with my project. I've got a 3/4 inch PVC pipe, and I'm looking for 90° elbow pieces. I purchased what I thought were 3/4 inch elbows, but they don't fit snugly at all. I'm a bit confused—are the pipes actually measured differently? What size elbow should I use if the 3/4 inch ones are too big? Any advice would really help!

It sounds like you may have misjudged the size. Often, PVC pipes are actually measured by their inner diameter, so what you're calling 3/4 inch might actually be 1/2 inch inside. Just double-check the measurements and it might clear things up! Alternatively, just take your pipe to the store and match it up with the elbows directly; they can be tricky to figure out sometimes!

I think you're right! PVC sizing can be super confusing, even for experienced DIYers.

Yeah, sometimes even experienced folks need to double-check things at the store!

You might also want to ensure that you’ve got the right type of PVC. There are different types like schedule 40 and schedule 80, which have different wall thicknesses and therefore different outer diameters; they’re both labeled 3/4 inch. Always a good idea to bring a piece of the pipe with you to the store so you can test fit!

That’s a great tip! Even if you think you know what you need, it can be surprisingly easy to mix things up.

Definitely! Mistakes in sizing are common, so it's smart to double-check.

Also, make sure the elbows and pipes are both labeled 3/4 inch. Sometimes, products exist in different standards, especially between PVC and CPVC. They can physically differ even if they share the same name. It’s worth investigating before you buy more parts!

Yes! It’s critical to ensure they’re both from the same kind, as it can save a lot of hassle later.

Absolutely, I’ve made that mistake before. Always better to double-check!
