Do Pistachio Shells Really Work as Slug Deterrents?

Asked By NatureNerd88 On

I recently came across a video suggesting that pistachio shells could deter slugs, squirrels, and even cats from invading your garden. I'm curious if anyone has tried this out and found it effective? Also, should I wash the shells first to remove any salt? My main problem right now is slugs and snails, while my cat tends to avoid my plants and the squirrels seem to hang around in my neighbor's trees. Thanks for any advice! ❤️

I tried using pistachio shells and honestly, they didn't do anything against slugs. Plus, they can be a hassle to clean up later. The best bet is to just go out at night and collect them by hand when you see them, that's the only reliable method I've found.

To effectively deal with slugs, you’ve basically got two solid methods: chemical treatments like slug pellets or mechanical ones - which means just picking them up and tossing them. I haven’t seen much success with using nematodes either. It’s also super helpful to remove any spots where slugs like to hide, like wood borders or under your pots.
