How to Clear Nails from My Gravel Driveway After Renovations?

I've got this 40-foot gravel driveway that's now a nail hazard after some recent renovations. Despite raking, using a magnet roller, and even a metal detector, my tires just keep finding nails and screws. Some of the gravel is ferrous, so it complicates things since they stick to my tools. I'm considering building a frame with fine chicken wire to sift through the gravel to locate any remaining fasteners, and I joked about getting a single tire the width of the driveway to help find them. What solutions do you all suggest?

I’d recommend completely dredging your driveway. Start by removing any magnetic rocks first, and then sort through the gravel for any remaining metal pieces. Maybe try setting up a sloped ramp with some vibrations to help shake things loose!

At this point, prevention is your best bet. After you clear it out, keep an eye out for anything that might fall into your driveway in future renovations to minimize the chances of reoccurrence. I feel you, though, every nail manages to find my tires too unless I opt for the extra coverage when buying tires!

I think you're joking about the tire idea, but honestly, I get how your tires seem to pick up every single hidden nail out there. That can feel pretty frustrating! Maybe you could try a specialized extraction method or consider adding a layer of different gravel to your driveway once it's cleared to avoid future issues.

Right? It's almost like the nails are just waiting for someone to drive over them! ? Better safe than sorry though; prevention is key!
