Is it normal for a landscaper to trim my entire yard with just a weedwacker?

Hey everyone, I recently bought a house with a small yard (about 0.15 acres) and my partner hired a guy recommended by our neighbor to cut the grass. This guy charged us $90, took 4 hours, and did the whole yard using only a weedwacker. I was surprised by the time and the price! Is this typical? It seems high to me, but everyone around here seems fine with it. We have a couple of mounds of grass over some construction debris which I can understand needing a weedwacker for, but the rest of the lawn looks pretty normal. I'm curious if spending $90 for cutting my grass every two weeks is reasonable. Any advice would be appreciated, especially since I have allergies and am considering buying a lawnmower myself!

Using a weedwacker for the whole yard is definitely unusual. It might be worth asking the guy why he chose that method instead of a mower. Either way, if you're feeling uneasy about the price, consider other landscapers or doing it yourself. Just invest in a good mask and goggles if you do!

Yeah, safety first with your allergies! It's great you’re being cautious.

You might be surprised; sometimes, you can hire a local kid for much less!

Honestly, it sounds a bit steep. Typically, for a yard that small, it shouldn't take more than an hour for a crew of 1 or 2, and you could expect to pay around $50-$70. Four hours is excessive; I'd definitely get a second opinion next time!

Exactly! That just screams overcharging to me, especially with all the mowing equipment available.

Plus, using a weedwacker for the whole yard doesn't make much sense unless the grass is super long!

From what I've seen, $90 for 4 hours of work is pretty standard for more complicated yards, but since you're saying it was mostly just regular grass, it does sound like you might have been charged a bit too much. I'd suggest looking into getting your own mower — might save you a lot in the long run!

Totally! Just make sure you're careful with those allergies when you're mowing.

And you could always find someone local to help out for a cheaper rate if you prefer!
