Hey everyone! I'm planning to build something out of Doug fir and I'm curious if there are any higher-quality options than the standard 2x lumber sold at big box stores. I've noticed that they sell fully kiln-dried boards, but I wonder if there's something even better available. Has anyone had experience sourcing Doug fir lumber?

If you want something nicer, definitely check the trim section at your local lumberyard. You’ll likely find drier, more quality boards than in the framing section. Specialty lumber is also a great choice if you can manage a little drive. They can be pricier but totally worth it for better quality Doug fir!
You should definitely check out your local regional lumber yards. They usually have a better selection and higher quality materials compared to the big chains. It's worth a look!
It really depends on your skills and tools. If you can joint and plane, the standard 2x material can work well. For instance, a 2x12 from the center of the tree can be transformed into two nice quarter-sawn 2x5 boards. If you resaw one, you can create a beautiful book-matched quarter-sawn panel. It's all about the boards you pick and your woodworking skills!

Do you know of any good suppliers around LA? I'm curious if there's something nearby!
