Hey everyone! I came across a solar system on Marketplace that includes everything I need for my off-grid setup: panels, inverter, and two batteries. The seller never used it and couldn't return it, so all of it is brand new in the box. They're asking for $9k, which is a good deal considering the retail price is about $12k for a full system. The batteries are from Signature Solar (here's the link: [Signature Solar Battery](https://signaturesolar.com/eg4-wallmount-indoor-battery-48v-280ah-14-3kwh-indoor-heated-ul1973-ul9540a-10-year-warranty?searchid=1572805&search_query=eg4+wall+mount+battery)).
However, I'm a bit worried because the batteries have been sitting unused for almost a year now. A couple of things to note: the warranty is not transferrable, so if something goes wrong, I'd have to cover it myself. Given that they've been in storage for a while, do you think it's a bad idea to purchase these, even though they are unopened? Thanks for your help!

Just a heads-up, you might not be able to claim any federal tax rebates on this setup, depending on your situation. Keep that in mind before making a decision!
I picked up some older Enphase batteries and they turned out fine. Just make sure these batteries have never been powered on; draining them can ruin them. I cycle mine down to about 5% every few months to keep the cells balanced. That said, it's smart to consider if saving $3k is worth the lack of warranty—battery prices have dropped recently, so check current prices.
Most batteries usually sit in warehouses for a bit, so a year isn't a huge red flag. Just give them a good once-over for any physical damage before buying. You should be alright!
As long as they're stored around 50-55% charge like they should be, they should be fine. If you pass on them, I might be interested. Just saying!

Good point, thanks for the advice!
