Need Router Recommendations After Burning Out My DeWalt

Hey everyone! I just had a bit of a disaster with my DeWalt DW618 router — it literally smoked while I was using it with a Freud lock miter bit on some red oak. I was aware of the potential issues from some Amazon reviews, but I figured every tool has its critics. This router is only about two years old and I've used it for other big bits at slower speeds without any problem until now. It was mounted correctly in a table saw extension, and I had a dust collector set up, which might have restricted airflow. I was only 8 cuts into a 32 cut project when the motor started smoking and tripped the breaker. So, I'm looking for recommendations on a different brand or model of router. Also, do you think the dust collector could have contributed to overheating while running at the slowest setting? Thanks for any insights!

I’ve had great luck with my Makita trim router. It's compact, powerful, and has been reliable for years. Might be worth checking out if you're looking for something smaller!

I recommend going with a Bosch router. The 3-horsepower model is a solid choice and has a great track record. I've used Bosch routers for years, and they always deliver performance without the mishaps!

No problem! I've always found Bosch routers reliable, so I think you'll be happy with it!

I second that! The Bosch 1617EVSPK is fantastic. I've used this model for various routing tasks, and it has never let me down. Definitely worth considering!
