I'm curious to know if anyone has successfully grown propagated willows, like trees or pussy willow. I've managed to root several in water and now have some branches ready to plant. Should I start them in pots to help them grow stronger before putting them in the ground? I'm particularly worried about bunnies munching on them. I've dug around the forum for success stories and would really appreciate your experiences! Thanks!

Just stick some cuttings in pots and keep them watered; they grow roots really fast! I learned that while using them for trellising, and they rooted quicker than I expected. It's quite easy!
Definitely consider starting them in pots! This way, their roots can settle into the soil better, and you can protect them from bunnies. I've been growing a few desert willows in pots and plan to move them outside when the seasons change.
I started a few willows in large pots last spring, and they grew quite well! I planted two of them the following spring, but sadly, they didn't last due to poor soil and not enough water. The two I gave away are thriving after three years, so pots seem like the way to go!
