What’s the best way to weatherproof a wooden bench?

Hey everyone! I built a bench about 1-2 years ago, and it's looking worse for wear due to the rain and sun. Since I'm not really skilled in woodworking, I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction to help extend the life of my bench. What types of wood are best for weather resistance, and are there any specific treatments or methods I should use? Thanks a bunch!

A waterproof varnish is key! It goes on thick and really helps protect the wood. You can also use linseed oil for extra preservation. If you're feeling adventurous, there are some marine methods used for boats that can be a bit more involved but worth it!

Those marine methods sound interesting! Do you have any specific techniques in mind?

Honestly, there's only so much you can do to weatherproof furniture, but applying a good spar varnish every few years will help a lot. It's not a full-proof solution, but it's definitely the best way to maintain the wood's condition!

Yeah, I've heard that spar varnish really helps in preserving outdoor wood. Any tips on how often you apply it?

If you want a deeper dive, check out some YouTube videos on weatherproofing wood. There are tons of great channels out there that provide practical advice and step-by-step guides. I came across a couple that really break it down nicely!
