I'm considering getting a whole house water softener but I'm worried about my garden. Specifically, do these systems usually include the garden hose faucets? I really don't want to unintentionally salt my lawn and harm my outdoor plants.

Nope, most whole house water softeners don’t include the outdoor hose faucets. Soft water isn’t great for plants and grass, so they generally keep those systems separate.
From my experience, the system I use only treats the indoor water from the well. Adding the outdoor faucets would drive up the costs too much for the installation.
It really depends on how your plumbing is set up. A plumber usually can rearrange things in the crawl space to give you unsoftened water for the outdoor taps. Just make sure to use the bypass valve on the softener when you’re watering your plants.
