Is it okay to take English Ivy from a park for my home?

I'm thinking about snipping some English Ivy from a public park to use as a houseplant. I live in the Pacific Northwest, where I see these plants everywhere. Is it a good idea? Are there any concerns I should be aware of?

You can definitely take some, but be aware of local regulations about invasive species. While these plants thrive outdoors and are quite resilient, they can face issues like spider mites when kept inside. Plus, they can be toxic to kids and pets, so watch out if you have little ones or furry friends around.

Thanks for the heads up! I’ll make sure to keep them in my office then.

Yeah, I’ve heard their sap can be irritating, so careful handling is a must.

Just make sure to wash them well when you get home, but you should be good to go! Enjoy your new plant!

Absolutely! English Ivy tends to spread like crazy around here, so taking a few cuttings is generally fine. I’d suggest getting your cuttings from a shady area since those plants will adjust better to lower light once you bring them indoors. Just remember that even the brightest window won’t match their outdoor sunlight.
