I'm gearing up to install three giant windows, each over 7 feet wide, on the second floor of my house. I've been watching tons of videos on YouTube to learn the ropes, but I've noticed that no one seems to mention removing the sashes from the double-hung windows to make carrying them up the ladder easier. Should I keep the heavy sashes in while putting them into the rough opening?

Honestly, it really depends on how comfortable you are with handling those windows. If you can manage to leave the sashes in, go for it, but it's much safer to take them out. The last thing you want is to risk dropping the whole unit while maneuvering it. Also, think about renting a lift; it could make getting those heavy windows up there a lot simpler.
If you decide to remove the sashes for easier lifting, remember to put them back in before you start shimming and securing the frame to your house. Having the sashes in really helps keep the frame square during installation.
If you're swapping out old windows for replacements, you might want to install them from the inside, which can make things easier. Just a heads up if you're using new construction double-hung windows on an older house; be mindful of how you handle the installation.
