I recently bought a house and decided to update the kitchen, including painting the cabinets. Unfortunately, I chose the lowest quote for the job because we were juggling a lot of other renovations, and in hindsight, it was a mistake. The paint job looks mediocre, and the surface isn't smooth at all. In contrast, a professional painter did an amazing job on the island cabinets. Now I'm seriously considering redoing all the cabinets, but it's going to cost me another $3,000 to $4,000 on top of the $2,000 I already spent. Every time I see the poor paint work, it bothers me! Has anyone else had a similar experience? What did you end up doing?

It sounds like you might have gotten a subpar job on the cabinets. A lot of times, cheaper painters skip some important prep work, and that can really affect the finish. If the oak wasn't sanded properly before painting, the end result can definitely look off. Maybe consult with your pro painter about what happened—the difference in results can be huge! It might be worth it to invest in getting it redone correctly this time, especially if it’s bothering you. Best of luck!
Exactly, I had to learn this the hard way too. The finish can look totally different depending on how well the prep was done. It might be worth a chat with your current painter about options.

Yeah, it's surprising how much prep work matters! I saw a similar situation where the cheap painter just slapped paint on without sanding first. It seemed like a small detail, but it made a world of difference in the finish.
