Is ScotchBlue Painter’s Tape Safe for Dorm Walls?

Asked By CoolCat94 On

I'm considering using ScotchBlue Original painter's tape to hang paper posters in my dorm room. Is it safe to use, or will it damage the walls? I found this tape to be the cheapest option, but I'm concerned about any potential issues with paint peeling or wall damage. Any advice?

Honestly, if the tape does peel off any paint, it's not your fault. It means the wall was painted poorly. This tape is designed to come off easily, and it's the least sticky option out there. So go ahead and use it without too much worry!

You'll be fine using blue painter's tape for up to about 14 days. Just make sure to gently peel it off when you're done. If you're concerned about damage, you might also want to look into blu-tack as a safer alternative.

It really depends on the type of paint on your dorm walls. Some paints are so poorly applied that almost any tape will pull it up or leave marks. Just keep that in mind! If you're really worried, consider using mounting putty instead—it's a lot gentler on the walls.
