The gutter installer overlooked putting on toppers, and I'm torn about whether I should have them installed at all. I could save $2,500 by not having them put on. I've read through some comments here and am curious if it's worth it or if I can manage without them. Also, I have a 1/2 acre lot with no mature trees, though all my neighbors have gutter toppers. Any advice?

Honestly, I think you should just save the money. If your neighbors don’t have issues, you might be fine without them. Plus, if it’s a hassle to maintain, it might not be worth it.
I actually went the DIY route and used some affordable covers—I spent about $100 and installed them myself in a couple of hours. If you’re handy at all, it’s really not tough to do, and you can get similar results without the hefty price tag!
I have tons of large trees around my house and I’ve tried various gutter toppers, but they seem to clog up quickly, especially with all the seeds and pollen floating around. I’d definitely say save your cash unless you’re sure you won’t have any debris. Those ads are often misleading!
It really depends on where your house is located. In my neighborhood, we don’t have mature trees, so almost everyone cleans their gutters maybe once a year. But a friend of mine who lives in a tree-dense area has toppers and still has to go up there to clean them off occasionally. I'd say saving the $2,500 and doing a couple of cleanings a year sounds like a solid plan.

Absolutely! If you have a drill and a ladder, it's an easy project that can save you a ton of cash. Definitely worth considering!
