I'm in Florida, which is notorious for its termite problems, and I'm in the process of rebuilding the railing and post for my front porch. I've decided to go with Cypress because it's durable, but I'm wondering if I should also apply a sealer to protect it further. Thanks in advance for any tips!

When I rebuilt my porch, I opted for plastic composite decking and steel railings to minimize the use of wood. But if you’re going with Cypress, definitely seal it to protect against water damage, especially around the joints where water tends to collect and lead to rot. Make sure to seal the end grain of your rails really well, and using something like epoxy could help with that!
