I could really use some help! My husband accidentally damaged my peony while pulling out a tree stump in our backyard. All the foliage got stomped on and torn up. I decided to cut back the damaged leaves to tidy things up a bit, but now I'm worried that trimming it so early might kill the plant or prevent me from having flowers next year. Does anyone have any advice or tips for recovering peonies?

You’ve got about a 70% chance that your pruning won't hurt it. Honestly, it sounds like you did what was necessary. Good luck with your peony!
I always cut my peonies back after they bloom, and they bounce back well the next year. They can definitely store energy from what’s left, even if you trimmed them early!
Your peony should be just fine! Just make sure to give it a good watering and allow it to recover. I once found a peony that looked like a mess under a brush pile when I moved into my house. I transplanted it, and it looked like just a couple of sticks with one leaf at first. But come spring, it bounced back beautifully and became a thriving bush with stunning red blooms! Just be patient and keep caring for it.
